Dear Friends and Customers,
Cheng & Tsui has long been a pioneer in innovative pedagogy in North America. Whether it was in publishing the first Chinese textbooks offered in both character forms (leading to the popularization of the terms Traditional Character Edition and Simplified Character Edition); the first award-winning Chinese software program, Hyperchinese; the first interactive video-based textbook, Chinese Breakthrough; the first best-selling full-color college Chinese textbook series, Integrated Chinese; the first top-selling illustrated high school Japanese series, Adventures in Japanese; or the first widely-regarded secondary school Arabic program, Marhaba!, our motivation to create what you need and deserve has always been you, the learners and teachers who share our vision for a more understanding world.
Continuing in that spirit of innovation going into 2017, I am excited to share with you our latest technological creation: the ChengTsui Web App™. To accommodate different learning and teaching styles, the ChengTsui Web App has been designed to enable flexibility—for blended learning, differentiated learning, and customized learning. Moreover, feedback and suggestions from our loyal customers and in academic research, such as the study we’ve summarized on pages 2–3, told us that ‘selecting materials, tools, resources’ as the[ir] number one barrier for teaching with technology.” In response, we have built our Web App to address the issues of content, concept, and context outlined in the study. We think you will be happy to know that we are launching the ChengTsui Web App™ with the new 4th Edition of Integrated Chinese (IC).
With IC, we have designed the ChengTsui Web App around a market-leading core textbook that is built on second language acquisitions theory and pedagogical context, and is carefully aligned to ACTFL standards and 21st Century Skills. We provide audio, video, interactive content, workbook activities, and teacher resources that are fully integrated with the textbook. Separately, we will also make available a library of additional supplemental resources and assessments that are carefully curated to meet level, theme, and interest requirements. All these will be accessible online and offline, on desktops, laptops, and tablets, and mobile devices.
With your help and feedback, we envision the ChengTsui Web App becoming a dynamically evolving resource to make both learning and teaching easier and more effective for you for a long time to come! To learn more about the Web App, please see pages 4–5.
